Odds and Ends
A slightly different post.
Summer is just around the corner, but there is still plenty happening in the world of sport. Here’s a quick update on what I’ve been getting up to over the last few weeks…
Joe Root and the missing Australian hundred
As part of the build up to the first Ashes Test last week, I wrote a piece for the ABC looking at which of the five venues gives the former English skipper the best chance at finally reaching three figures on Australian soil. I won’t spoil things for you, but I will say that I was correct in my opinion that it would not be in Perth.

Defenders need love too
North Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions are set to do battle in the AFLW Grand Final on Saturday night. This will be the third year in a row these two teams have played off for the premiership cup, with each team winning one of the two previous encounters. There will be plenty of big-name players out there, but in my latest contribution to The Roar I shine a light on one of the more consistent performers who doesn’t get as many accolades as some of their teammates.

Bedtime Tales for Cricket Tragics
Last night I ducked into the Commercial Club Hotel in Fitzroy for the Melbourne launch of Bedtime Tales for Cricket Tragics, the latest offering from Geoff Lemon and Adam Collins – the great minds behind The Final Word podcast. The night started with Geoff reading a chapter about the great Laurie Nash, before he and Adam were joined by William McInnes for a brief conversation about cricket, storytelling, and much more. It was a fantastic chat, and it was great to meet the guys and pick up a signed copy of the book.
